Location: Old Agua Fria Dump Site
Beginning Monday May 27, contractors will be conducting a cleaning of the Old Agua Fria Dump Site south of the Nancy Rodriguez Community Center.
The Old Agua Fria Dump is a pre-regulatory landfill that was used by local residents up until the 1970s. During the inspection of the site, we discovered some transite wall panel fragment on the surface that contained asbestos. The County has hired a qualified remediation contractor to collect the asbestos containing material from the site and properly dispose of it at an approved solid waste facility. After the asbestos containing materials are removed, the contractor will grade the rest of the dump site and remove any physical hazards.
The County plans to cover the old dump site with clean fill dirt and reclaim the surface with native grasses.
The dump site will be fenced with temporary fencing while the work is being done. Please do not be alarmed. Workers will be wearing protective gear and there will be an inspector on site during the removal of the asbestos containing material.
