$9.60: New County Minimum Wage

Santa Fe– August 3, 2007 – The Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners has approved the recommendations of a classification and compensation study of County employees.  As a result, all non-temporary County employees will earn no less than $9.60 per hour.  About 125 employees were identified as needing salary increases when compared to their market value.

The study revealed:

99% of positions were assigned to the proper job class

43% required job title modifications

76% earn less than $40,000 annually

83% are below the midpoint of their salary range

The study was done as part of an effort spearheaded by County Manager Roman Abeyta to evaluate the competitiveness and equity of the County’s current Classification and Compensation Plan.   “The most important resource in our organization is our people” said Abeyta “Analyzing our systems of how we classify and compensate our human resources iscrucial.  This study gives us the information we need to make sure we can retain and recruit capable and professional people to serve County residents.”
