All County Growth Management Meetings Were Open to Public, No Secret Meetings; KSFR Report Incorrect

Santa Fe County did not have any “secret” or “unadvertised” meetings during its growth management workshop this week.  All meetings were legally noticed in local news papers and posted on its website (www.santafecountynm.gov).  KSFR news incorrectly reported County growth management meetings were occurring secretly and were closed to the public.  Calls made to KSFR News to clarify the report were not returned.

In order to meet its December 2009 timeline to have a completed Growth Management Plan and revised Land Use Code, Santa Fe County is working to maximize public input and work efficiently by packing a broad spectrum of meetings into its workshops.

Those meetings include:

·  Workshops with County staff and consultants presenting ideas, principles, and strategies for managing growth in Santa Fe County.

· Workshops where attendees can break out into small groups and work through planning exercises.

· Roundtable discussions/focus groups with homogenous representatives from community stakeholder groups (Rio Arriba County, Santa Fe Area, Public Safety, Water/Wastewater, Economic Development, Schools, Communities).  The purpose of these discussions is to get specific input and feedback from each stakeholder group on what issues are important to them.

All members of the public who asked to participate in these discussions were allowed to participate.

The next set of growth management planning meetings are on February 23 at 6:00 PM at the Galisteo Community Center, 35 Avenida Vieja.   All meetings will continue to be open to everyone.  For more information, go to http://santafecounty.org/about_us/growth_management_department.php#GenPlanUpdate.
