BCC Chair and SFNF to host Town Hall on Santa Fe Mountains Landscape Resiliency Project on June 8

Santa Fe, NM - County Commissioner Chair Anna Hansen (District 2) and the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) will host a Town Hall in Santa Fe, NM, on Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe Community College. The public can participate in the event virtually via WebEx (details below). The purpose of the Town Hall is to provide information on the Santa Fe Mountains Landscape Resiliency Project (SFMLRP) and give the public an opportunity to ask SFNF leadership, program managers, and resource specialists about upcoming plans and actions.

The SFMLRP is a 10-year restoration project with actions focused on aiding the ponderosa pine and frequent-fire mixed conifer landscapes near the City of Santa Fe. The project aims to increase resiliency to threats like high-severity wildfire, insects and disease infestation as a result of a changing climate. Over the past five years of planning, the SFNF worked in partnership with the Greater Santa Fe Fireshed Coalition, including other federal agencies, state, local and tribal governments to complete the environmental analysis.

The Town Hall agenda includes a short presentation followed by an opportunity for the public to ask SFNF staff questions about the project. “We would like to hear input from the community on how we can best communicate on project actions in the next 10 years,” stated Forest Supervisor Shaun Sanchez. Santa Fe County Commissioner Chair Anna Hansen reached out to the Forest Service to provide a venue for the public to engage with the SFNF staff. "I asked the Forest Service to hold this Town Hall because of the many constituents who feel unheard through the NEPA process."
