Bennie J Chavez Senior/Community Center Re-Opening Celebration

Santa Fe, NM - May 17, 2013 - Santa Fe County Senior Services would like to notify residents there will be a re-opening celebration on Thursday, May 23 at the Bennie J. Chavez Senior/Community Center. The celebration will include live musical entertainment starting at 11 a.m. and a BBQ lunch will be served at noon. The celebration is until 3 p.m. and includes bingo, door prizes and more!

The center provides congregate meals daily and has weekly activities including: jewelry making, sewing, weaving, origami, exercise, ceramics and bingo.

“This community re-opening celebration will highlight the community resource this center provides and provide an opportunity to recognize the hard work Santa Fe County has done for this community gathering place,” said District 1 Santa Fe County Commissioner Daniel Mayfield.

Over the past 10 years Santa Fe County has spent over $225,000 in renovations and upgrades to the Bennie J. Chavez Center including: parking lot renovation, bathroom remodel, retaining walls, new flooring, park improvements and a new kitchen. The new kitchen allows the center to serve Northern New Mexico seniors participating in congregate meals and from July 2012 through the closing in February 2013 over 3,500 congregate meals were served.
