Burro Lane Park Grand Opening

Santa Fe, NM – September 17, 2012 - The Santa Fe County Open Space and Trails Program would like to invite the public to attend a ribbon cutting and grand opening for Burro Lane Park. The event will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. The new park is located on Quail View Lane, just west of the roundabout at West Alameda and the Siler Street Bridge in the Village of Agua Fria.

The Bureau of Land Management granted a patent to Santa Fe County on approximately three acres of land to develop a neighborhood park at this location. The park includes sheltered picnic facilities, a trail loop, playground, and small parking area as well as a school bus turnaround.

County Open Space staff, the neighborhood and the project consultant, Laboratory of Landscape Architecture arrived at a design which would create and sustain a natural habitat for birds to feed, nest and live. To make the most of the bird habitat, shelters, observation points and a walking trail to view and enjoy the birds and other wildlife were included in the design.

Native wildflowers, grasses, and drought tolerant shrubs, and trees were used at the park. A planting plan was designed to correspond with the areas that will receive and collect surface runoff and the site has been graded to maximize passive water harvesting opportunities.

“We are fortunate that agencies such as the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) believe in the same mission as Santa Fe County does and donate property to create more open space, trails and parks for our communities. Burro Lane Park is nestled in a neighborhood area that will create a wonderful opportunity for all residents to enjoy the outdoors,” said Commissioner Virginia Vigil.
