Change Your Clocks March 14, 2010, Change Your Smoke Detector Batteries
Santa Fe – March 12, 2010 – The Santa Fe County Fire Department would like to remind residents on Sunday, March 14, 2010 to change clocks to “Spring Forward” and enjoy the longer days of Spring and Summer. When you change the time on your clocks, the County Fire Department encourages residents to take a few extra minutes and change the batteries in the smoke detectors. If the smoke detectors are more than seven years old, please consider replacing them. Smoke detectors should be installed in every sleeping area of the home. If this is not possible, you should at least have one installed in the hallway outside the sleeping areas and on every level of the home.
“Firefighters know firsthand how smoke detectors can alert a family to a fire in their home and save lives before we ever get to the scene. All residents should change the batteries in their smoke detectors twice a year and test them monthly to help ensure their families are safe from fire,” encourages Santa Fe County Fire Chief, Stan Holden.
