COUNTYCLERKNAMED STATE DIRECTOR OF INTERNATIONAL CLERKS ASSOCIATION

Santa Fe– August 27, 2007 – Santa Fe County Clerk Valerie Espinoza has been elected the International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurers (IACREOT) New Mexico Director. Espinoza was elected while attending the IACREOT International Conference in Charlotte, NC.

Implementing new technology is a top priority for Espinosa. She is working to make the Clerk’s Office “paperless”. Beginning to e-file would be a large step in the direction of accomplishing this goal. E-filing would eliminate paper in the recording process. Instead of submitting a paper original to the Clerk’s office for recording, a digital original could be submitted for recording via the internet. It would not only cut down on the unnecessary waste of paper, but it would cut down on travel time. It would also help with concerns over document storage and preservation. Digital files are smaller than paper files, they are easier to store, and they do not degrade or lose quality over time.
