County Addresses Blowing Dust Concerns At New Courthouse Site

Despite efforts to constantly spray water to control dust at the new Courthouse site, strong winds have been blowing dust and debris through the area.  In addition to the dust nuisance, there have been concerns about possible hazardous contents in the blowing dust.  In response to those concerns it is important to note the following:

  • Before the Courthouse construction project began, Santa Fe County acquired the services of an environmental engineer that conducted approximately 400 samples of floor, wall, ceiling and roofing materials at all the buildings at the construction site.
  • Test results identified the location of asbestos containing materials, which were then properly removed and disposed of by an abatement contractor.
  • The site will continually be sprayed with effluent water throughout the construction of the new Courthouse to control dust.

If there are any concerns or to report dust, residents should call 820-CNTY (2689) - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
