County Campaigns to Reduce Greenhouse Gases; First in State

Santa Fe County invites residents to join County staff in Changing a Light to Change the World. Part of the national ENERGY STAR Change a Light, Change the World Campaign, residents are being asked to replace the light bulbs in their homes and businesses with ENERGY STAR bulbs. Residents will receive a discount coupon for $3 off ENERGY STAR light bulbs at Office Depot upon completing the pledge form at www.naco.org/changealight.

ENERGY STAR light bulbs:

  • Use 1/3 of the energy of a standard incandescent light
  • Last up to 10 times longer
  • Save an average of $30 or more in energy costs over its lifetime
  • Prevent 450 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions over its lifetime
  • Help preserve energy resources

Last year, the National Association of Counties (NACo) collected over 6,600 pledges from their employees which helped prevent over 2.7 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions. This year, Santa Fe County will be the first county in New Mexico to participate in the Campaign and is encouraging residents to join County staff in this effort.

The Change a Light Campaign is a call-to-action to encourage everyone to help change the world, one light and one energy-saving step at a time. Go to www.onebillionbulbs.comfor more information on how changing a light can change the world.
