County Fair Opens July 29

Santa Fe– July 25, 2007 – Santa Fe County is excited to invite the community to the 2007 County Fair from Sunday, July 29thto Sunday, August 5th. This FREE event is packed with activities and will be held at the Santa Fe County Fairgrounds, 3229 Rodeo Road.

  

Animals of all sizes will be on display, from livestock and horse shows to a small pet show. Extensive indoor exhibits will feature award-winning arts and crafts, gardens, fashion, food and more. The title of Santa Fe County’s Best Chile will be on the line in a Chile Challenge. Area craftsman and quilters will have their works on display. There will be several live bands to dance to – Country, Salsa, and even Hip Hop.

  

Some of the scheduled events include:

  

July 29:The 4H Horse Show, where youths compete in English and Western events. In between the classes demonstrating horsemanship and showmanship, the kids will have horseback games. Spectators are welcome.

  

July 30 – 31:The public and 4H/FFA youths can submit their indoor exhibits that range from painting to gardening to welding to baking.

  

August 1:Animals arrive.

  

August 2:Rabbit Show and Dairy Goat Show in the afternoon, followed by the popular Swine Show from 5pm to 8 pm. The 4H youth will compete for top honors with their hand-raised animals, with buckles being awarded for champion animals and champion showman handlers.

  

August 3:The Poultry Show and Sheep Show in the morning, followed by the Meat Goat Show and Cattle Show and Dog Show. Youths ages 5 to 18 will be demonstrating their skills at handling their animals, large and small. The indoor exhibits will be showcased in the Exhibits Building, and the top awards for categories ranging from floriculture to photography can be viewed. At 7 pm, the champion showmanship youth compete for the Round Robin Grand Champion Showman of the Fair award--where the youths have to show 6 species: lambs, pigs, steers, goats, rabbits and chickens. Evening entertainment will be a country dance to the music of the band Black Gold.

  

August 4:Entertainment by the Matachines Dancer, Mariachi Azteca, DJ Vinny, and a Hip Hop production! All exhibits and animals will be available for public viewing. The Livestock Auction begins at 2:30 pm, where individuals and businesses can bid on the top-placing animals at the Fair. Dances, music, and a Salsa Contest round out the day.

  

August 5:The grand Chile Challenge, bands, dance entertainment, animals, food, craft demonstrations and more. The Fair ends at 4 pm.
