County Recommends St. Vincent’s Open Board Meetings To Public

The Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners has passed a resolution recommending that Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center and St. Vincent Hospital SupportCo open their board meetings to the public effective immediately.  “Over 33 million dollars in public funds, from both the County and the federal government are provided to support the operations of St. Vincent Hospital” said County Commission Chair Jack Sullivan “As a Sole Community Provider hospital, relations with the community it serves and the public entities that fund the hospital would be greatly enhanced by St. Vincent and Christus agreeing to open board meetings.  News releases and marketing programs cannot take the place of a transparent governance structure, and open board meetings would substantially reduce the need for and cost of such programs.  Confidential, patient or legal matters could be addressed in executive sessions, but the community would benefit by discussing other issues in an open meeting."
