County Sponsors Bone Marrow Drive

Santa Fe County is sponsoring a Bone Marrow Driveon March 18 from 8:30 AM to 10 AM at the County Health and Human Services Department at 2052 Galisteo, Suite B and from 10:30 AM to 12 noon in the Commission Chambers at 102 Grant Ave. County employees invites the community to join them in helping the more than 10,000 Americans who get life-threatening diseases every yearthat can only be cured with a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor. These patients do not have a family donor and transplant is their only hope for a cure. They need to find people whose tissue type matches their own so they can receive a life-saving marrow transplant. They need to find someone willing to become a marrow donor.

How It Works:
To be registered into the National Marrow Donor Program Registry you must be between the ages of 18 – 60, meet simple health guidelines, fill out a form, have your cheek swabbed with a qtip, and be willing to donate to any patient in need. If you are ever found to match a patient in need, you could save a life.

Minority Donors Urgently Needed!
Native American, African American and Hispanic donors account for a very low percentage of all donors registered in the National Marrow Donor Program.
