County Staff Serve as Santa Claus to Children, Elderly in Housing Developments

The Santa Fe County Housing Department has spearheaded efforts to reach out to children and elderly residents living in County Housing Developments.  Three “Joshua trees” were set up around Santa Fe County (at the courthouse, at the Community Services Department, and at the Sheriff’s Office) with tags containing the names and ages of 200 resident children.  The tags were to be for a toy, clothing, gift certificate or any other appropriate gift for a child.

Staff from every County department staff took all 200 names and tags and so the decision was made to include elderly residents in the gift giving.  Gifts and cash have been received for all 45 families living in County Housing.  The monies collected have been used to purchase popcorn tin, a fleece blanket, and a Christmas mug for each elderly family.
