Create a Fire Escape Plan For Your Home

Create a Fire Escape Plan For Your Home

Santa Fe – March 25, 2010 – The Santa Fe County Fire Department would like to remind residents to create a fire escape plan for your home. An escape plan is a map, showing the layout of your home that clearly marks the exits in each room.

· Establish two-ways out of every room, so if the primary exit is blocked by fire and smoke, you have a second exit (like a window).

· Include in your escape plan not only a safe exit, but also a safe meeting place like the mailbox, a tree, or a neighbor’s house. Your safe meeting place is a place where everyone meets once they have escaped.

· Once your escape plan is created, practice your plan. You do not want to wait until an emergency is happening, by practicing and preparing in advance, everyone will be ready know what to do.
