District 4 Fire Safety Community Meeting on Thursday, March 29 at 6 p.m

Santa Fe, NM – March 26, 2012 - Santa Fe County Commissioner Kathy Holian will host a meeting to discuss fire safety for Ojo de la Vaca, Los Cerros, Arroyo Hondo and Sunlit Hills residents on Thursday, March 29, 2012 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Hondo Fire Station 2, 645 Old Las Vegas Highway.

Krys Nystrom from the Santa Fe County Fire Safety Division will be demonstrating the SimTable (a tool that helps visualize the spread of fires in three dimensions). Buster Patty from the Santa Fe County Fire Department will talk about how to protect yourself and your home and Martin Vigil, the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator will be present to answer any questions and provide safety information. In addition, Chief Tom Chilton of the Hondo Volunteer Fire Department will talk about a recent fire in the area.

"We had the first fire of the season in our area, it was a brush fire south of Nine Mile Road on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. I feel like it is very important to start raising fire awareness and getting information to the residents so everyone can be well prepared," said Commissioner Holian.

Note: Hondo 2 Fire Station is off of Old Las Vegas Highway just to the south of the intersection with U.S. Hwy 285. This fire station is not to be confused with the Hondo Volunteer Fire station on Seton Village Drive.
