Fire Awareness is Key for Fire Prevention in Santa Fe County

Santa Fe – June 3, 2011 – Santa Fe County would like to remind residents it is essential everyone be meticulous in protecting our community and being aware of the current fire dangers and restrictions.

“Santa Fe County residents need to be aware of the fire danger in our community, Santa Fe County is working together diligently with communities to provide information and raise awareness about the true level of fire danger we are in,” said County Commissioner, Daniel Mayfield.

Over the past 60 days the Santa Fe County Fire Department has responded to 157 fire related calls. Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners has enacted emergency ordinance 2011-2 which prohibits open fires of any kind. Please see below for full list of restrictions.

“We are prepared to respond to any fire that occurs, but our hope is that through the actions of the Commissioners to impose fire restrictions and the diligence of our resident to follow the restrictions, the impact from wildfires will be minimal in our communities. I also remind residents to report all fires, immediately by calling 9-1-1,” said Interim Fire Chief David Sperling.

Ordinance 2011-2 Prohibits:
• Campfires;
• Open fires of any kind;
