Free Trees for Kids – Celebrate Earth Day 2025 by Planting a Tree!
Santa Fe, NM- In celebration of Earth Day 2025, Santa Fe County’s Sustainability Division is partnering with Neighborhood Forest, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit dedicated to giving away free trees to 100,000 children across the U.S. This initiative not only beautifies our community but also increases our tree canopy, fostering a healthier environment for future generations.
Santa Fe County encourages families to participate by planting a tree in their backyard or a meaningful community space. By nurturing a tree, children develop a lifelong connection to nature and learn valuable lessons about environmental stewardship. Planting and caring for a tree is a simple yet powerful action that contributes to cleaner air, cooler neighborhoods, and a greener future.
As a registered coordinator, the Santa Fe County Sustainability Division is offering parents and guardians the opportunity to sign up for a free tree on behalf of their child. Families must register by March 15, 2025, to receive a tree. To ensure the trees thrive, recipients will be asked to follow basic care guidelines. The tree species selected for the Santa Fe region will be well-suited to our arid climate and drought conditions.
Students who receive a tree are encouraged to express their gratitude through art, which may be featured on the Neighborhood Forest website. The Santa Fe County Sustainability Division will distribute trees to parents around Earth Day (April 22-30, 2025). Schools, libraries, and youth organizations are invited to join the program and receive free trees for their students.
Don’t miss this opportunity—sign up today! Tree supplies are limited!
