SANTA FE COUNTY CLERK URGES VOTERS TO BE ELECTION WORKERS
One of the most rewarding tasks at the County Clerk’s Office is preparing the Certificates of Recognition for each of the Election Workers who preserve our democracy by working at the polls on Election Day!
Geraldine Salazar, Santa Fe County Clerk, and her staff know that elections could not happen without community members making this public service commitment. We appreciate the many dedicated election workers, that each year, assist us during the electoral process, but we are still in need of YOUR help! We are asking for either a one day commitment or several weeks of your time during early voting. It’s a wonderful way to serve your community, as well as visit with friends and neighbors! You are also paid for the time you work, which is another way the county acknowledges your effort!
Each year the need is greater for more assistance. Especially for this upcoming 2014 General Election, since there will be new and different voting machines. We will provide the necessary training for you to serve as an election worker and besides training we are planning to have an Open House in early September for election workers to become familiar with these new voting machines. Please consider working with us to conduct a fair, unbiased, and secure election on November 4, 2014.
The requirements for an election worker are: Your voter registration needs to be current so that you can be contacted. You must not be a candidate in this election or a spouse, parent, child, brother or sister of any candidate to be voted for at the election; or married to a parent, child, brother or sister of any candidate or the parent of the spouse of any candidate in this election; or you must not be a sheriff, deputy sheriff, marshal, deputy marshal or state or municipal police officer. You must be officially registered in the County where you want to serve. It is important to have your correct mailing address in the Clerk’s voter registration system, because your “appointment” as an election worker and important instructions will be mailed to you. We also mail your paycheck and your Certificate of Recognition.
