Dates to Remember for the Primary Election

Santa Fe, NM – April 19, 2012- Santa Fe County Clerk, Valerie Espinoza would like to remind voters that the New Mexico Primary Election day is on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 and polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. In addition to the Primary Election Day, there are several dates before the election that voters should keep in mind.

The last day to register to vote is Tuesday, May 8.

Voter Registration: New Mexico has a closed Primary: only registered Democrats can vote in the Democratic Primary, and only registered Republicans can vote in the Republican Primary. If you are new to the county, have changed your name, address, or political affiliation, you must re-register. Please note: if you re-registered and failed to indicate a political party, even if you have been a Democrat or Republican on previous registrations, you are currently listed as Declined to State (DTS) and cannot vote in the Primary. Your Voter Information card lists your party. If you have questions or wish the Clerk’s Office to send you a Voter Registration form, call 505-986-6280.

Apply for an Absentee Ballot now or any time up until Friday, June 1, 2012.

Absentee Ballots: By law we cannot send out Absentee Ballots until Tuesday, May 8, 2012 and the last day we can send out Absentee Ballots is Friday, June 1, 2012. To print an Absentee Ballot application visit www.santafecountynm.gov/clerkand look under Quick Info or call the County Clerk’s Office (505-986-6280) to request an application.

Vote Early

Early Voting at the Clerk’s Office: You can vote early at the Clerk’s Office is Tuesday, May 8 – June 1, 2012. Early voting is open Monday - Friday, 8: a.m. to 5 p.m., including lunch hours. The last day to vote early is on Saturday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (this is the ONLY Saturday early voting will take place at the Clerk’s Office). There will be no early voting on Monday, May 28 Santa Fe County is closed in observance of Memorial Day.

Early Voting at Alternate Sites: The County has early voting at the sites listed below. Early voting at these sites are Saturday, May 19 - Saturday, June 2. Days and hours for these sites are as follows: Tuesday- Friday, from noon until 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. These sites are closed on Sundays and Mondays.
