Santa Fe, NM – September 11, 2012- The Santa Fe County Fire Department and Commissioner Liz Stefanics would like to invite all residents to the Grand Opening (Wet Down) Ceremony of the Rancho Viejo Fire Station, located at 37 Rancho Viejo Blvd on Friday, September 14, 2012 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. The Grand Reopening ceremony will be a traditional Wet Down ceremony, which is when firefighters anoint the new station with water from a fire truck.

Additional parking for the ceremony and shuttle service will be available at the Amy Biehl Community School, located at 310 Avenida del Sur.

"We are very excited to see this new fire station complete, it is an essential part of the safety in this newly developed area of the County,” said Fire Chief David Sperling.

The Rancho Viejo Fire Station consists of 14,643 square feet. This includes a six door apparatus bay, sleeping/living quarters for full time staff with offices for leaders, sleeping quarters and meeting space for volunteer staff, training room and a conference/meeting room. Select storage rooms are temperature controlled for the storage of medications.

The Rancho Viejo Fire Station is the second Regional Headquarters Fire Stations built by Santa Fe County. The first was the Hondo Eastern Regional Fire Station built in 2006. Santa Fe County will break ground on the third Regional Fire Station in November 2012 in Edgewood called the Southern Regional Headquarters.
