Ground Breaking Ceremony for New Equestrian Facility and Trail System

Santa Fe, NM – January 23, 2013 - Santa Fe County, the Open Space and Trails Program and the Town of Edgewood will be hosting a Ground Breaking Ceremony for the equestrian facility and trails system on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the future equestrian facility site. The equestrian facility and trail system will be at the Edgewood Open Space which is located at 97 West Frontage Road, in Edgewood, adjacent to the Wildlife West Nature Park.

The equestrian facility project will include: a small riding arena, shaded grand stands, approximately two miles of hiking and equestrian trails, picnic tables, and parking for the arena and trailhead.

“The taxpayers and citizens of Santa County approve and pay for the open space in this county and this is a great example of how the open space can be utilized to benefit the community,” said Commissioner Robert Anaya. He continued, “This facility and land will be a wonderful asset used by people of all ages for generations and will add to the quality of life for people in the tri-county area.”

The Town of Edgewood will be managing and maintaining the property in conjunction with Santa Fe County. Longhorn Construction of Albuquerque is the contractor for the project. The project is scheduled to be complete in 120 working days. The contract amount is for $656,929.
