Groundwater Pollution Analysis to Begin in Sombrillo
Santa Fe County has authorized an engineering report be conducted to address groundwater pollution issues being faced by residents in the Sombrillo area. Completion of the report is expected this Fall and will be used to assist decision-makers in choosing a solution for these problems. The wastewater project preliminary engineering report will be conducted by the engineering firm, Souder Miller and Associates.
The purpose of the analysis is to develop wastewater treatment alternatives for the Sombrillo area and produce a feasibility report of cost effective wastewater conveyance or treatment systems. Alternatives will be evaluated based on costs, meeting and/or exceeding effluent discharge or effluent reuse requirements, owners objectives, scheduled delivery of the proposed project, and financing options.
County Commissioner Harry Montoya said, "A comprehensive study conducted in this manner is the best way to take in the considerations of all interested parties and design the best system. This is a much needed system for this area that needs to be completed, but completed so that it is most beneficial for years to come."
