Joint City / County Fire Department Efforts on July 4th

The City of Santa Fe Fire Department and Santa Fe County Fire Department are encouraging residents and visitors to follow the recommendations below this 4th of July:

  • Enjoy a public firework display, like the Boys and Girls Club display at Santa Fe High School instead of purchasing fireworks.
  • If residents must purchase fireworks, only use fireworks that are “safe and sane” which include fireworks like sparklers, ground spinners, and cone fountains. Safe and sane fireworks have no report (loud bang), are not self-propelling and do not extend above 15 feet in height.
  • Fireworks should only be used on paved or barren areas-away from homes, vegetation and combustible materials.Residents using fireworks should have a readily available source of water, such as a charged garden hose or two 5 gallon buckets available to put out any unintended fires.
  • Fireworks should never be used on "Red Flag Warning" days, as these days indicate extreme risk for wildland fires. To keep current, go to www.weather.gov.

The City and County Fire Departments will be patrolling the City and County in an effort to be visual reminders of restrictions and provide immediate response for any fires that may occur.

Members of both departments would like to encourage residents and visitors to have a safe and fun 4th of July.

Complaints of fireworks can be directed to the non-emergency number, (505) 428-3730. Please report all fires, flames and smoke directly to 9-1-1.
