Let the Sun Shine In: County Unveils New Transparency Plan
Commissioner, County Manager Participate in League of Women Voters ‘Sunshine’ Forum
In celebration of Sunshine Week and, in part, because of the efforts of the League of Women Voters to improve public access to County government information, Santa Fe County has put together a plan to make County government more accessible to residents. This plan is being released on the same day that Commissioner Paul Campos and County Manager Roman Abeyta participated in the League’s Sunshine Forum to address public access to information issues.
The plan includes:
- Audio Podcasts of County Meetings, Interviews with Commissioners and staff
- Video Broadcasts of all public meetings
- Digital archive of all recordings of previous meetings
- Schedule, Agenda, Video/Audio Streaming, and Minutes of meetings posted online with archive available afterwards
- Improved searchability of web site
- Increased digitization of information (audio/video/data)
- Work in progress for a blog – to allow for an ongoing, interactive conversation between County officials and residents
- Asking League of Women Voters to take the lead in creating a 5 member transparency advisory committee to do a transparency audit of SF County – reviewing accessibility and making recommendations.
- Post budgets online
- Fee schedule that reflects openness not discouragement
