Local Rail Trail Featured in National Publication
Santa Fe – December 7, 2010– The Santa Fe Rail Trail was recently chosen as the featured trail for the winter 2011 issue of the national publication Rails to Trails magazine. The Santa Fe Rail Trail graces the cover of the publication and is featured in a six-page article. In addition, the trail was selected by the magazine’s editors as the featured trail of the month for January in their limited edition 2011 calendar.
The article on the trail, titled “Past, Present, and Future,” is written by Kory Kilmer and covers the history and upcoming improvements for the Santa Fe Rail Trail starting in the City of Santa Fe and focusing on the natural surface portion of the trail in Santa Fe County. The article features brief interviews with Santa Fe County Open Space and Trails program manager Colleen Baker and project manager Allison Moore discussing some of the challenges they have encountered trying to make improvements to the trail without detracting from the natural setting. Chris Corrie, a Santa Fe based photographer took the photographs that capture the unique beauty of Santa Fe County.
“It is very exciting to know the Santa Fe Rail Trail is being recognized at the national level, this is a local favorite,” Baker said. She continued, “The trail needs some improvements, but we are excited about the opportunity to broaden the spectrum of people who can enjoy it while preserving its local character.”
