Nambe Community Center and Park Plans Released

On Wednesday, July 15, Santa Fe County Commissioner Harry Montoya and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ben Lujan, co-hosted a Town Hall Meeting at the Nambe Head Start to discuss the proposed Nambe Community Park and Community Center.

Santa Fe County received funding from the New Mexico Legislature for the Pojoaque Valley to obtain three properties off Highway 503 in Nambe for a Community Center and Park to include tennis and basketball courts, a playground, walking trails, and picnic shelters. The proposed property consists of approximately 1.73 acres. From 2006- 2008, Santa Fe Countyreceived $558,000 for this project.

"I want to thank Speaker Lujan for all his efforts in obtaining legislative funding for this project. As we go through the process, we will continue to have these community meetings on a regular basis to obtain input and feedback from the residents,” said Commissioner Montoya, “This is something that the Speaker and I have envisioned for the Valley for a long time and now we look forward to creating a facility that families can enjoy."

This month, Santa Fe County closed on the purchase of one of the three properties of the proposed land, known as the Upper Nambe Elementary School, which is about .73 acres with two small former School buildings and a parking area. The County is considering this parcel for a Community Center. It was the property of the Pojoaque Valley School system.

Some of the comments from residents at the meeting included requests for biking and walking trails, tennis courts, a gazebo/pavilion at the park, a community center with tutoring/educational programs, rooms for community meetings, and facilities for receptions.
