From the New Mexico Corrections Department - New Mexico Corrections enters into Partnership with Santa Fe County

Details: Please join us for a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the new partnership between New Mexico Corrections and Santa Fe County.

When:July 8, 2013, 10:00am

Where:Penitentiary of New Mexico,

Who:Corrections Officials, Santa Fe County Representatives, Representative Brian Egolf, Senator Peter Wirth

Why:The New Mexico Corrections Department is excited to announce a new partnership with Santa Fe County to provide water to the Penitentiary of New Mexico. For many years, the State Pen has been using water from a well system. Residents in La Cienega and surrounding areas rely on the same well for water.

Currently, the well system handles three prison facilities on Penitentiary grounds as well as the New Mexico Corrections Training Academy. NMCD can use between 2.6 and 6 million gallons of water a month. NMCD will not be asking for a budget increase to cover the $200,000 yearly cost to use the County’s water sys m.
