New Mexico Counties Build Bridges
Santa Fe and Rio Arriba set an example
for working together
SANTA FE, NM – Commissioners from two Northern New Mexico counties will come together to recognize the bridges built to connect Santa Fe and Rio Arriba, separated by the Santa Cruz River. The bridges have been a local focus for years, due to repeated flooding and washing out of the culverts.
“This is a safety issue for our residents,” explained Santa Fe County Commissioner Henry Roybal. “The bridges were such an important issue, Chimayo was one of the first site visits I made in 2015 and it became a key project for me to see to completion. I am proud of the work both counties have done together.”
Rio Arriba County Commissioner James Martinez added, "It is exciting to see how Rio Arriba County and Santa Fe county can work together on behalf of the residents of Chimayo. We are committed to address the priorities of our residents. Rio Arriba County is looking forward to working together with Santa Fe County to continue to meet the needs of our communities."
The ribbon cuttings will take place on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. on the two bridges connecting the counties. The first will be on County Road 94, then immediately moving on to County Road 97 for a second celebration.
