New Section of Santa Fe Rail Trail Open

Santa Fe County Open Space and Trails would like to invite residents to the Grand Opening for the newly completed section of the Santa Fe Rail Trail on Saturday, October 6 at 10 a.m. The Grand Opening ceremony will take place a the Rabbit Road trailhead (Intersection of Rabbit Road and the Railroad). Residents are invited meet at the Rabbit Road trailhead at 10 a.m. for the ribbon cutting and then immediately celebrate the opening by hiking, biking, running or walking the trail!

The Santa Fe Rail Trail runs along the Santa Fe Southern Railway from the Santa Fe Depot to Lamy, NM. It is nationally recognized by the Rails-to-Trail Conservancy. The trail is a unique attraction for Santa Fe because the trail runs along an active railroad which allows people to combine a trail ride with a ride on the Santa Fe Southern Railway.

The trail has been divided into six segments for construction. The first segment is approximately 1.7 miles long. The construction cost for this segment was $771,281. The County will construct segments 2-6 as funding becomes available. The County also has plans to improve trailheads at Rabbit Rd., Nine Mile Rd., Avenida Eldorado, and NM 285.
