Northern New Mexico Master Naturalist Program
We’re pleased to invite you to register for this year’s virtual Northern New Mexico Master Naturalist Program! If you are looking for a way to learn more about our local environment, be involved in conservation and meet like-minded community members in a virtual setting, this 13 week course is for you. Dates:Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-7:30 pm, August 18- November 9, 2020. No more than 3 classes can be missed for reasons other than illness to qualify for a certification.
Location:Classes will be held over Zoom, with some self-guided field trips to outdoor locations around the Northern New Mexico/Santa Fe area.
Cost:(Note: there are two price points for the price types. If you would like a binder with printed articles, this will be an additional $45 cost. Otherwise, you will be able to access all materials online. These could be read on a computer or device, or printed at home.)

Description:Join the third cohort of the Northern New Mexico Master Naturalist Program! This in-depth course combines virtual lectures and discussions with self-guided field experiences that will equip participants with the foundational knowledge and skills to better understand and care for their local environment. In particular, it will prepare aspiring Master Naturalists to perform valuable volunteer work for local environmental organizations
Each week we will explore an important environmental topic as it relates to our region through lectures, readings, and discussions. The course will cover both an introduction to the environment, flora, and fauna of Northern New Mexico, and some of the environmental issues our region currently faces. Topics range from plants and wildlife, to land ethics and science communication.
Our two weekly meetings will be divided into one lecture/Q&A session and one session to discuss readings. Outdoor experiences and self-guided field trips will support and supplement weekly class topics. The course will be taught by various representatives of our sponsor organizations, including the Santa Fe Botanical Garden, Randall Davey Audubon Center, Santa Fe County Open Space, and other community leaders. After completing the course work, you will be prepared to volunteer with the sponsoring organizations. Master Naturalists are required to donate 30 hours in the following year to successfully complete the program. This year, the time frame for the volunteering requirement will be extended due to circumstances surrounding COVID-19.
