Notices of Value (NOV) - 3/7 was Deadline to Receive Mailing

The Santa Fe County Assessor’s Official Notices of Value (NOV) documents are being prepped at the printer for the official mailing on Monday, April 2, 2018. IF you changed the ownership / mailing address after March 7, 2018 you will NOT receive a paper (NOV).

***If a property owner or their agent recorded a deed or a document that resulted in a transfer of ownership/name with the County Clerk’s office after Wednesday, March 7 2018, they will NOT receive the 2018 notice under the changed ownership/name. The notice will be mailed to the owner of record prior to March 7, 2018.

***If there was a request submitted to change a mailing address after March 7, 2018, the notice will be mailed to the address of record prior to March 7, 2018.

This is an unavoidable circumstance due to the time required for printing and mailing over 87,000 notices. A link to the 2018 digital Notices of Value will be available on April 2, 2018 on the main page of the Assessor’s website: www.santafecountynm.gov/assessor.

For assistance with locating notices online it is suggested that property owners utilize the Assessor’s website chat feature, call 505-986-6300, or visit the Assessor’s office located at 102 Grant Ave, Santa Fe.

The Assessor’s goal is to better inform and assist the public with the most accurate and current information.

The Assessor’s records will be updated with the most current aforementioned information and shown on the County Treasurer’s tax bills.

Exemptions and Benefits
a. Head of Family Exemption – The Head of Family exemption is a $2,000 reduction of taxable value on residential property. The exemption may save property owners $35 – $50 a year in taxes.
b. Veterans Exemptions – The Veterans Exemption is a $4,000 reduction of taxable value that may be applied to the veterans, or surviving spouse’s residence or vacant land.
i. The 100% Disabled Veterans Exemption is a %100 exemption from property taxes on the veterans residential property up to five acres of land.
c. Valuation Freeze – Residents 65 years or older, or disabled at any age with a total household income of $32,000 or less in the prior year of application may qualify.
i. This benefit will freeze the total assessed value from increasing each year which helps alleviate tax increases. *This benefit freezes the Value not the taxes. Taxes may fluctuate due to the tax rates that are set by the State Department of Finance Authority.
2. Property Valuation Protests
a. Online – Property owners have the option to protest their property value online through the Assessor’s CRM Portal
b. Deadline – The deadline to protest property values is May 2nd, 2018
c. Protest Amount – The value to protest is the “2018 Total Full Value” on your Notice of Value
