The US Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation is proposing to design and construct a regional water system (RWS) serving the Pojoaque Basin in Santa Fe County. The purpose of the RWS is to provide safe and reliable drinking water to the Pueblos of San Ildefonso, Pojoaque, Nambé, and Tesuque, and to County residents within the basin.
The proposed project would divert water from the Rio Grande at the Pueblo de San Ildefonso, treat the collected water at a water treatment facility, and transmit it to storage facilities through underground pipelines. From these storage facilities, water would then be distributed to homes and businesses within the Pojoaque Basin.
Reclamation is hosting two open houses to provide updated information on the project, including future planning activities and project surveys. Surveys will be conducted in the upcoming years to assess current site conditions, identify sensitive habitats and cultural resources, and study hydrologic processes in the area. Landowners and residents within the Pojoaque Basin are encouraged to attend to learn more about these upcoming data collection activities and the related access needs that are necessary for the success of the project.
Both meetings will be from 6:00PM to 7:30PM, with a brief presentation at 6:15PM, at the following locations:
Tuesday, August 6, 2013: Tesuque Elementary School gymnasium
1555 Bishops Lodge Road, Tesuque, NM 87574
Thursday, August 8, 2013: Pojoaque Valley High School gymnasium
1574 State Road 502 West, Santa Fe, NM 87506
