Portion of Santa Fe Rail Trail Closed For Trail Surface Improvement

Santa Fe, NM – September 23, 2014 – A portion of the Santa Fe Rail Trail will be closed starting Thursday, September 25, 2014 until May 2015 to improve a five mile section of the trail. The portion of trail that will be closed is located between Avenida Vista Grande (mile post 6.5) and the Spur Trail (mile post 11.5).

The closure is part of the second phase of the improvement construction, which includes an improved natural surface trail in the Rail Trail right of way of the Santa Fe Southern Railroad. Trail users should plan an alternate route during this trail construction and closure.

Phase two of the project will cost about $1.1 million, the project is funded from Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) and a Federal Highway Administration Grant.

Santa Fe County has contracted with A.A.C. Construction of Santa Fe, NM for this phase of the project.
