Program to Reduce Waste from Unwanted Junk Mail

Santa Fe, NM – March 15, 2012- Santa Fe County, the City of Santa Fe and the Solid Waste Management Agency would like to remind Santa Fe County residents that you can opt out of unsolicited mail, catalogs and phone books for FREE via Catalog Choice. Catalog Choice is a non-profit organization that provides an on-line service that allows individuals and businesses to reduce unwanted junk mail, catalogs, and telephone books delivered to their homes or places of business. The service is simple, private, and free.

Residents can visit the Catalog Choice mail preference service at https://santafe.catalogchoice.org/and specify which junk mail, catalogs and telephone books they no longer wish to receive. Catalog Choice then contacts the senders of the junk mail, catalogs, or phone books to request that they stop sending it to whoever opted out.

This service has already helped Santa Fe shed thousands of pounds of waste and dollars in costs! Santa Fe receives detailed reporting on local participation by zip code, solid waste diversion and environmental benefits. With the annual collection and landfill cost of these mailings estimated add up to $10 per household, the cost savings will be significant.
