Public Hearing Schedule for the Transition of Senior Centers


Santa Fe- March 28, 2011- The Santa Fe County Senior Services Division is hosting a series of Public Hearings at Senior Centers around Santa Fe County to allow for public comment on the transition of Senior Centers from the City of Santa Fe to Santa Fe County. Staff from both government entities will be present at the public hearing to answer questions and provide information.

“The joint City and County transition team are working together to ensure the transition is as seamless as possible, Our shared goal is to make this change happen on July 1, 2011 with minimal impact to our senior communities throughout the County, this is the message we need to get out,” said Ron Pacheco, Senior Services Program Manager.

Meeting Dates and Times
Edgewood Senior Center, Wednesday, April 6 at 1 p.m.
Mary Esther Gonzales (MEG) Senior Center, Thursday, April 7 at 1 p.m.
El Rancho Community Center, Wednesday, April 13 at 1 p.m.
Rio en Medio/Chupadero Community Center, Wednesday, April 27at 1p.m.
Ken and Patty Senior Center (Eldorado), Friday, April 29 at 12:30 p.m.
Benny Chavez Center (Chimayo), Wednesday, May 4 at 1 p.m.
Abedon Lopez Center (Santa Cruz), Monday, May 9 at 1 p.m.


In addition to these dates the joint transition team has discussed and agreed upon

• A staffing plan that will allow County staff to provide the current level of service now provided in the County by the City
• Fleet vehicles that will move from the City to County for meals and transportation services
• Equipment and Furnishings including tables and chairs that will be transferred to the County
• Food Inventory that will be needed by the County program on July 1, 2011.
• An assessment by the City of all current senior program participants in the County to make sure they qualify for services to be provided by the County beginning July 1, 2011.
• A review of current routes for Home Delivered Meals and Transportation Services to assess mileage and staffing
• Environmental Department requirements to transfer responsibility for kitchens to the County
• A review of needs at each center including equipment to continue relatively seamless service on July 1, 2011
