Recycle your Campaign Signs
Campaign Signs in the City and County of Santa Fe
Many campaign signs are made of regular corrugated cardboard. They CAN go in your curbside recycling cart, once the metal frames are removed. However, if corrugated cardboard has plastic film on it, it CANNOT be recycled. Many signs are made of corrugated plastic with metal frames and stakes – these materials CANNOT be recycled in your curbside recycling cart.
Metal stakes and frames are NOT accepted in curbside recycling, but they are recyclable elsewhere. If bundled together, they can be brought to Buckman Road Recycling and Transfer Station (BuRRT). See the scale house attendant. Metal stakes CANNOT go in mixed recycling trailers at convenience centers. They will contaminate the entire load. Also, consider taking them to locations that purchase scrap metal such as the Capital Scrap Metals, Inc., and Mr. G’s Recycling.
Plastic sleeve signs that go over a wire base cannot be recycled in our area.
Repurposing Campaign Plastic Signs
• Signs that are just a plastic sleeve over a wire base can be reused by sliding off the plastic sleeve, covering with repurposed paper or plastic; and painting on your information or adhering information to them.
• Rigid plastic signs can be painted white and use as garage sale/yard sale signs.
• Try selling them to future candidates.
• Search the Internet to repurpose signs into portable solar panels, birdhouses, and more.
The Buckman Road Recycling & Transfer Station’s (BuRRT) hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. , seven days a week.
The Caja del Rio Landfill’s hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. pre-approved commercial account holders only.
