Register Now, Change Your Reality Youth Conference

Santa Fe – April 21, 2010 – Santa Fe County will host the second annual Change Your Reality Conference. This conference, free of charge, is designed to empower youth to make a difference in their community. It will be held June 8 from 8:00am-3:00pm and June 9 from 8:00am to 6:00pm at the Santa Maria De La Paz Catholic Community Hall. The conference is open to 300 youth participants ages 12-15 living is Santa Fe, Rio Arriba, and Torrance Counties. This year’s conference is themed after the key issues taken from last year’s conference evaluation. Workshops topics will include Take It Back Now (DWI prevention), Saving Lives (suicide prevention), Creating a Path for Success/Gang Prevention, Lions, Tigers, and Bears (choices and decision making), Leadership Strategies (leadership), and TORCIDA (cultural and social norms). Keynote speakers include Miguel Santistevan and D.J. Eagle Bear Vanas. There will be entertainment from “Jarambe” a local break dance group, Mariachi Conquistadores de De Vargas Middle School, and Santa Clara youth dancers along with other activities including a rock climbing wall.

“The primary goal of the conference is to engage, empower and educate youth to become connected and involved in their communities, we want to let the youth know they have positive adult role models to look up to within the community,” said Christina Gomez, Santa Fe County DWI Prevention Specialist.
