Revelers Pile in for $1 Cab Ride Home New Year’s Eve
It was a busy night for the $1 Cab Ride Home on New Year’s Eve, revelers took 193 rides home. The Santa Fe County DWI Program reduced the Cab Ride Home to only $1 for the mid-week holiday.
“Twice as many people took a cab home on New Year’s Eve compared to an average weekend night. Typically the DWI program subsidizes 80-100 cab rides home each Friday and Saturday night. It is great that so many people decided to Think SaFe. Drinking and driving is never good. Ever,” said Lupe Sanchez, DWI Program Coordinator.
The Cab Ride Home program runs from 5:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. The normal rate for the subsidized ride home is $5 per cab for 1-2 riders and $10 per cab for 3 or more. The DWI Program offsets the first $25 of these cab rides home. Patrons are responsible for any portion of the fare over $25.
