The Glorieta Pass Fire District construction is now complete on the new, energy efficient Fire Substation. The 3,140 sq. ft. substation includes three apparatus bays, a training/meeting room, and office area.

The Glorieta Pass Fire District is situated in the east central area of Santa Fe County and is one of 14 Fire Districts of the Santa Fe County Fire Department. Glorieta Pass is responsible for providing fire and emergency medical services to the communities of Glorieta and Valencia. It also supports neighboring Fire Departments.

Many considerations were made when building the substation to stay in line with the recent energy efficient direction of new construction in the County. We were able to maintain Northern New Mexico aesthetics by using a traditional stucco finish with a sloped metal roof. In order to reduce energy costs, the station was oriented to face the sun and additional windows were installed in the bay area along with LED lighting throughout the facility. This concept will be extended to the exterior of the building by xeriscaping to reduce water usage for landscaping. Cisterns were installed in order to catch rainwater from the roof, which will be used to water shrubs and will also be used for fire flow requirements of the new draft hydrant installed on the property.

“We were fortunate to have a location that we could utilize so many natural resources in an effort to keep energy costs down for the District," said Chief David Sperling.
