Ring in the New Year With a $1 Cab Ride Home New Year’s Eve
Santa Fe, NM - December 30, 2013 — The Santa Fe County DWI Program announces $1 cab rides home on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 (New Year’s Eve until 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Revelers should call 438-0000 for a ride home from a bar or party where alcohol is served. Cab riders pay $1 each and Santa Fe County DWI Program covers the remaining cost up to $25. Cab riders are responsible for the difference in fares over $25.
The Cab Ride Home is provided as a public service on Friday and Saturday nights from 5:30 p.m. – 2:30 a.m. and certain holiday nights which crash and arrest data show to be when more drunk drivers are on the road. This program, along with a concerted public awareness campaign to remind people to not drink and drive, and enhanced and coordinated law enforcement activity are shown to be effective in reducing the number of drunk driving crashes and fatalities.
The Santa Fe County DWI Program offers this public service in cooperation with Capital City Cab Company and is intended to keep drunk drivers off the street, offering a safe alternative to the danger of Driving While Intoxicated.
On Friday, January 3, 2014 rider contribution will increase to $5 a cab for 1 or 2 riders and $10 a cab for 3 or more. The change will continue through 2014. A reduced $1 rate will be offered during certain holidays in 2014 such as Fiestas de Santa Fe, St Patrick’s Day and 4th of July.
