Sample Ballot, Bond Information Available; Voting Begins in Santa Fe County

A sample ballot and information about bonds that Santa Fe County residents will be deciding on during the November General Election are available at www.santafecountynm.gov/clerk.

Absentee-in-person voting began Tuesday, October 7th in the County Clerk's Office at 102 Grant Avenue, Santa Fe (on Grant between Palace Avenue and Johnson St.) This poll is open Mondays through Fridays from 8am - 5pm including lunch time. This poll will be open on only one Saturday, November 1, 2008 from 10 am - 6 pm.

Early Voting begins Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008 and ends Saturday Nov. 1, 2008.

Hours of Operation:Tuesday-Friday Noon to 8pm and on Saturdays from 10am - 6pm. The early voting polls are closed on Sundays and Mondays.


The Early Voting sites in Santa Fe County are:

  • The County Fairgrounds- 3229 Rodeo Road, Santa Fe
  • Eldorado Adam Senior Center- 16 Avenida Torreon, Eldorado
  • Edgewood Fire Station- #2 25 East Frontage Rd, Edgewood
  • Pojoaque Fire Station- 17919 U.S. Hwy 84/285, Pojoaque
  • Abedon Lopez Center (Santa Cruz)- 155-B Camino de Quintana, Espanola

Santa Fe County Bond Issue - November General Election 2008:

There will be six bond questions on the November ballot related to County projects. The total amount of the bonds will be approximately $35 million. Voter approval of the bonds does not raise tax rates. The projects anticipated to receive funding by the bonds are:

Emergency Services-Fire Department:

New Fire Station in Rancho Viejo:Western Region Headquarters, Rancho Viejo Main Station. This station will replace the existing main station built in the late 1960's and will house both volunteer and paid firefighting personnel assigned to this Rancho Viejo area station. The current station is not large enough to accommodate the addition of paid paramedic/firefighter personnel, volunteer firefighters and their apparatus and equipment.

New Fire Training Academy:
Fire Training Center. The fire training center will be housed at a proposed location (21-acre site) in Stanley, NM, which currently houses the New Mexico Laborer's Training Center. The facility is located in Santa Fe County at the intersection of Thompson and Martin Roads.

Growth Management:

Agua Fria Phase III - (Commission District II)

This project will provide sanitary sewer, storm drain, sidewalk, and paving improvements on Agua Fria, From San Isidro Crossing to the Santa Fe City limits.

South Meadows Road - (Commission District II)

This project will provide a connection of State Road 599 to Agua Fria, providing another crossing over the Santa Fe River. This project includes a bridge and a paved roadway with an easement provided for the Buckman Diversion Waterline.

County Road 84 Low Water Crossing Phase II - (Commission District I)

This project will extend the existing concrete low water crossing on County Road 84 through the Tesuque River in Pojoaque.

Caja Del Rio Road - (Commission District II)

This project is for the repaving of Caja Del Rio Road, from State Road 599 frontage road to Las Campanas Drive. This project will include bicycle lanes.

Avenida Vista Grande - (Commission District V)

This project is for the repaving of Avenida Vista Grande in the Eldorado Subdivision, from US 285 to Avenida Casa del Oro.

County Road 42 - (Commission District III)

This project is for drainage and paving improvements to County Road 42. This project will complete the last unpaved portion of County Road 42, which connects the towns of Galisteo and Cerrillos.

Water Projects:

Regional Water System capable of serving the Area Southeast of Santa Fe, El Dorado, Canoncito, and areas southeast along the Galisteo River, including the Purchase of Water Rights, in Santa Fe County.

Regional Water System in the Santa Cruz River Valley capable of serving the communities in the area and Interconnecting to the Water System in the Chimayo Area, including the Purchase of Water Rights, in Santa Fe County.

Community Services: Open Space, Trails and Parks - Santa Fe River
Corridor - Trails, Parks and River Restoration

The Santa Fe County Open Space and Trails Program has been coordinating the acquisition and development of a protective river corridor along approximately 8 miles of the Santa Fe River from Camino Alire to NM 599. The project is envisioned to create a corridor along the river that will allow for a trail system and restoration of the river. The County has been coordinating project activities with the City of Santa Fe and many community groups. in order to ensure the creation of an integrated and coherent public facility that will serve the greater Santa Fe community. Currently an engineering firm is providing planning and design services for river restoration and trail construction.

Public Buildings - Santa Fe County Fairgrounds

The new Santa Fe County Fairgrounds project will construct a new facility for the Santa Fe County Agricultural Extension Program located at the Santa Fe County Fairgrounds on Rodeo Road in Santa Fe. The new facility will include approximately 7,200 square feet of space in a single story building The facility will house the Santa Fe County Agricultural Extension Program and associated staff and will consist of a reception area and lobby, conference room, restrooms, meeting and media rooms, and offices. The building will also contain offices for two Volunteer Agencies and a demonstration kitchen. Currently, a local architect is designing the building.
