Santa Fe County Accepting Public Housing Applications

Santa Fe, NM – August 5, 2011 - The Santa Fe County Housing Authority is currently accepting applications for the Public Housing Program and is seeking families in Espanola and Northern Santa Fe who need two or four bedroom units for the Valle de Esperanza Housing neighborhood.

Families must be within the Housing Urban Development (HUD) income limits to qualify. All applicants that meet the HUD income qualifications are placed on a waiting list and then screened. The screening process includes a background check and landlord check.

Rent is based on household income, which is 30 percent of household income minus allowances. Examples of allowances include child care expenses and medical expenses for elderly.
The Santa Fe County Housing Authority currently manages 200 Public Housing units located at three housing neighborhoods. The housing neighborhoods include: Valle Vista Housing Neighborhood, located off State Rd. 14, Valle de Esperanza Housing Neighborhood, located in Santa Cruz and Camino de Jacobo Housing Neighborhood.
Applications are available at the County Housing Authority Administrative Office, located at 52 Camino de Jacobo, Santa Fe, NM. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applications are also available online at www.santafecountynm.gov/community_services/housing_services/housing_forms
