Santa Fe, NM –At the November 14, 2023, Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners’ (BCC) meeting the Board unanimously approved a resolution to modify the operating schedule of the Jacona and Eldorado solid waste convenience centers.

Santa Fe County announces the closure of the Jacona and Eldorado solid waste convenience centers on Sundays, effective November 26, 2023. The convenience centers last Sunday of operation will be November 19, 2023, and will continue regular operations on weekdays and Saturdays as scheduled. The Eldorado Re-Use area will now be open on Saturdays to accept residents' items that are in good usable condition from entering the landfill. This decision is a result of careful consideration and a result of staffing constraints due to notable high vacancy rates within the Solid Waste Division.

This adjustment is necessary to ensure the continued safety and efficiency of our waste management services while also supporting the retention of current employees by improving their work-life balance. It is important to note that surrounding solid waste entities are not open or do not work Sundays for example, the Taos County Collection Centers are open Tues-Sat 8am-4pm, closed Sunday & Monday.

Santa Fe County is committed to providing reliable and sustainable waste management services to the community. We understand the inconvenience this may cause for residents who rely on these centers and want to assure our constituents that we are actively working to address staffing challenges and exploring options to resume Sunday operations in the future. In the meantime, we encourage residents to utilize alternative solid waste disposal options available on weekdays and Saturdays.
