Santa Fe County announces public meetings for the 2016 Agriculture Revitalization Initiative
The Agriculture Revitalization Initiative aims is to support and enhance agriculture and ranching in Santa Fe County. Five meetings have been scheduled throughout the County beginning later this month.
The following items will be discussed:
Protecting agriculture and environmental landsthrough incentives such as Transferable Development Rights (TDRs)-- The TDR Program is a voluntary, incentive-based, market-driven approach to preserving agricultural land, open space and other environmental resources while encouraging development in designated County growth areas.
Connecting landowners with farmers and ranchers seeking land-- New Mexico LandLink is for people seeking agricultural and local food resources, such as land for agricultural use, agricultural work or learning opportunities, or agricultural apprentices, interns, and employees.
Collecting knowledge of agricultural resources in Santa Fe County-- The Agricultural Resource Inventory will establish baseline data regarding the current status of agriculture and ranching in Santa Fe County which will be available to community members, policy makers, business owners, researchers, and agricultural producers for the purposes of building resiliency and networks in the local foodshed.
Supporting the local food economy-- Santa Fe County will be conducting a local food system analysis to identify economic trends and opportunities in agriculture to enhance the local food supply and demand chain.
