Santa Fe County Imposes Firework Ban

The Santa Fe Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved Resolution 2016-65 banning the sale and use of certain fireworks in the unincorporated portions and within wildlands in the County due to severe drought conditions.

Any types of fireworks that go up in the air such as rockets, aerial spinners, stick-type rockets and ground audible devices including fire crackers are banned from use or sale in Santa Fe County. Some fireworks remain permissible, including hand held sparklers, cone fountains, and other devices that remain on the ground, but their use is regulated to areas that are paved or barren with a source of water, such as a hose or bucket available. All fireworks are banned in wildland areas, this mainly includes areas that are covered with trees, grass, and shrubs.

Fireworks are never allowed on County Open Spaces, Parks, Trails or any other County owned property or facility

The Santa Fe County Fire Department recommends residents avoid all fireworks this year due to hazardous fire conditions throughout Santa Fe County, and rather seek out a public firework display to enjoy on the 4th of July.
