Santa Fe County DWI Program Announces $5 Cab Ride Home for Super Bowl Sunday - Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk

The Super Bowl is America’s most watched national sporting event. On Super Bowl Sunday, February 1, there will be lots of game day socializing that may include drinking. That’s why the Santa Fe County DWI Program, law enforcement officials, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), are urging football fans to choose now: drinking OR driving. If you plan on drinking for Super Bowl Sunday, call for a Cab Ride Home or designate a sober driver to get you home safely.

For those who plan to drink, leave your keys at home. Designate a sober driver, whether it’s a friend, relative, or taxi. The Santa Fe County Cab Ride Home program will be providing $5 rides per cab for 1 or 2 people and $10 rides per cab for 3 or more, just dial 438-0000 for a Cab Ride Home from 5:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. For those who plan to drive, refrain from any alcohol. Instead, enjoy the game with food and non-alcoholic drinks. Being a sober, designated driver is a key role on Super Bowl Sunday - You might just save a life.

“All it takes is a little planning. We want fans to remember that it’s a choice: drink or drive — but never do both. Think SaFe, call for a Cab Ride Home, ” said Lupe Sanchez, DWI Program Coordinator. He continued, “Drunk driving is completely preventable.”
The national campaign Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk encourages people to make plans ahead of time that will prevent them from getting behind the wheel of a vehicle after drinking. The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office, Santa Fe Police and New Mexico State Police will all have extra officers out taking drunk drivers off the roads. Remember, in Santa Fe, if you are arrested for DWI a second time you will lose your car. It will be seized and sold at auction.
