Santa Fe County DWI Program Announces Anti-Drunk Driving Campaign for Fiesta Weekend

“At .08 We Incarcerate”

Santa Fe, NM – September 4, 2013 — The Santa Fe County DWI Program has a very important message for everyone celebrating the 301st Santa Fe Fiesta, Don’t Drink And Drive because At .08 We Incarcerate. This message will appear in English and Spanish around town, on buses, in liquor stores and on coasters under drinks at local bars.

“The bars of the jail cell, the handcuffs, stark black and white images and the straight forward, no nonsense message, when you drink enough to be intoxicated and impaired, get behind the wheel and drive, you will go to jail,” said Lupe Sanchez, DWI Program Coordinator.

Law enforcement will be out in force during the weekend and this public awareness campaign will remind everyone to drive sober. Instead of hearing the harsh slamming of the jail cell door the Santa Fe County DWI Program reminds you the $1 Cab Ride Home runs Friday and Saturday nights from 5:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. The $1 cab ride is good for a ride home from the bar or a party where alcohol is served. The Santa Fe County DWI Program subsidizes the first $25 of the cab ride; if the fare is more than $25 the rider is responsible for the difference.

Law enforcement has arrested hundreds of drivers so far this year. Unfortunately, they will arrest many more before the end of the year. Last year seven people died in alcohol involved crashes in Santa Fe County, this year through August 31, three people have died. Hundreds have been injured in crashes that have alcohol as a contributing factor.

The Santa Fe County DWI Program has this friendly reminder: Don’t Drink and Drive because at .08 We Incarcerate.
