Santa Fe County DWI Program Announces Temporary Changes to CADDy Program Hours

Santa Fe, NM – May 9, 2013—The Santa Fe County DWI Program announces a temporary change to the CADDy $1 Cab Ride Home program. Starting May 24 and running through June 29 the $1 cab rides will be offered from 10 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights instead of beginning at 5:30 p.m.

“This is a great program and ridership has exceeded our expectations,” said Lupe Sanchez, Santa Fe County DWI Program Coordinator. He continued, “Bars and liquor establishments are very supportive of the program and we want to continue to provide the most important ride home during the peak ridership hours. ”

The Santa Fe County DWI program has determined that 64% of all rides originate between 10 p.m. and 2:30 a.m.

The CADDy Program provides more than 12,000 cab rides to 18,000 people a year. Each month an average of about 1,600 people take a cab home from the bar or party, some of whom may drive while intoxicated if the cab ride option isn’t available. The Santa Fe County DWI Program subsidizes these cab rides for about $156,000 per year through funds received from the State of New Mexico Liquor Excise Tax.

Regular service hours, 5:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights will resume July 5, 2013.
