Santa Fe County DWI Program Sponsors Nationally Recognized
Santa Fe – April 23, 2007 – The Santa Fe County DWI Program in conjunction with the Santa Fe “Choices”
Task Force is having the nationally recognized ‘Every 15 Minutes’ program implemented in Capital High
School on Thursday, April 26, 2007.
The Every 15 Minutes program offers real-life experience without the real-life risks. This emotionally charged
program is an all-day event designed to dramatically instill teenagers with the potentially dangerous
consequences of drinking alcohol. This powerful program will challenge students to think about drinking,
personal safety and the responsibility of making mature decisions when lives are involved.
Activities Description:
Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD) will kick off the program with an entire school assembly at the gym
starting at 8:30 AM with a multimedia presentation called, “THE SPOT”. Immediately after the “SPOT”
presentation several students and parents will read letters written as last words to their loved ones.
There will also be four stations that all students will go through the entire school day. These stations will have
activities and information aimed at raising awareness and possibly changing attitudes and behaviors as they
relate to the dangers of underage drinking and DWI.
· Station 1 will be an array of emergency vehicles including the Care Flight 5 and Lifeguard medical
helicopters along with emergency staff explaining what goes on in a DWI or related crash incident.
· Station 2 will have law enforcement giving “drunk impairment goggles” demonstrations while explaining
the laws and penalties of underage drinking and DWI in NM.
· Station 3 will be a wheelchair obstacle course designed to show teens how difficult every day life
chores can be if injured in a DWI crash and have to be in a wheelchair.
· Station 4 will be a presentation and a video of the dangers of underage drinking.
In addition, the Grim Reaper and law enforcement officers will be pulling students out of the classroom all day
to symbolically represent all the young people lost every year to DWI.
